Player of the Week: Tia Freeman

Tia Freeman has been named the Player of the Week for Week 6 in the WEABL after leading Oaklands to victory.

It’s a second weekly accolade for Freeman – also in February 2017 – finished with 21 points, 13 rebounds, four assists and five steals in a nervy 61-60 success for her side against John Madejski Academy.

“The game was really competitive against JMA,” she declared.

“Our team is only just starting to play together and still working it out, but I was given a lot of opportunities to finish by my team-mates.

“We executed and everyone contributed which was just enough to pull away for the win.”

Lee Ryan added: “JMA really worked us in this game – the reality is Tia kept us in it at times with some big scores.

“She’s a player that has always shown up in the big moments but now has added leadership to what she gives the team.

“Tia knows her game and understands when to push outside her comfort zone, her development and performance deserve the recognition for Player of the Week.”

Oaklands were one of three teams to get off to a winning start in the league play of the season.
