Charnwood College were crowned WEABL 3×3 National champions after beating Barking Abbey in the 2017-18 final, at Leicester Arena.

Krumesh Patel’s side sealed their triumph with a 15-6 success having gone through the day unbeaten on their home floor.

“I’m extremely proud of the girls today,” he commented post-game. “What an achievement – we’ve enjoyed 3×3 for the last few years and this is a great reward.

“It was a great event and supported well by rest of the students and staff. We locked in defensively and made better decisions offensively as the tournament went on.”

Holly Winterburn, Megan Jones and Ebony Horton all netted 5 points each in the final victory as Charnwood follow on from CoLA’s success in last year’s final.

“It feels really good to get our first national title of the year and shows how strong we can be as an academy,” said Winterburn. “I think our defence and intensity won it for us today as well as finding the open player and knocking down shots on offence.”

Horton added: “We had one goal and we achieved it through team work. Winning this chip feels incredible because we earned it.

“We know there is still more to come from us so we are just aiming to keep building as a team.”

Charnwood started the day with a 14-8 success against Myerscough before easing past Copleston 19-6 to reach the last four.

Winterburn then poured in 11 points to help her side to a dominant 22-10 victory over Oaklands in the semi-final clash.
