WEABL Final Four Round-Up

The WEABL Final Four took place on Wednesday. Check out below to find out what happened..

City of London Academy (1) v Barking Abbey School (3)

City of London Academy advanced to their first WEABL Final after beating the defending champions, Barking Abbey, 63-52.

Toyosi Abiola led the way with 21 points including a composed 10-of-11 from the line, while Ire Ozzy-Momodu collected 12 rebounds to go with six points.

“I’ve never been part of a game like that,” said Abiola. “The energy in the gym was overwhelming even as the home team, you could barely hear anything. It definitely drove us on.

“I’m proud of the girls today, this is just the beginning, we have more to do.”

CoLA made a strong start to lead 20-13 at the end of the first before the visitors hit back to tie the game at 27 at the half.

The teams were still level heading into the fourth before Abiola took over with 12 points to lead her side to victory, and into the Championship decider.

BA had 14 points apiece from Katy Armanu, Imani Whittington and Savannah Wilkinson as their title defence ends.

Charnwood College (1) v Oaklands College (2)

Charnwood secured their return to the WEABL Final with a 68-56 success against Oaklands.

Harriet Swindells netted five triples in a 21-point haul, while Megan Jones added a monster double-double of 18 points and 18 rebounds in the win.

“After a slow start the girls responded really well, extremely proud of the way they stuck together and got the win,” said Head Coach, Krumesh Patel.

“The girls have worked really hard for this and earned their place in the finals. Credit to Lee Ryan and Oaklands, they have done a great job this year and fought really hard today.”

There was little between the two teams in the first half as the home side established a narrow lead at the break.

Charnwood began to push clear in the second half with a seven-point lead at the end of the third before pushing forward to the win.

Krisztina Nagy led Oaklands with 14 points as the visitors were held to 32% shooting from the floor.

Charnwood lost out in last year’s Championship game, and face off against CoLA looking to go one better this season.
