Player of the Week: Toyosi Abiola

City of London Academy guard Toyosi Abiola has been named as the Player of the Week for Week 5 in the inaugural WEABL season.

Abiola netted 3-of-4 from beyond the arc in a 20-point display, whilst adding seven rebounds and two assists to lead CoLA to their first win, against Loreto.

“I’m still in shock,” she said. “After missing the Charnwood game I felt I owed it to my teammates to come back with a good performance.

“I’ve only been playing just over two years and so I’m always learning, of late the game has started to slow down for me and I’m starting to understand how and when I can be effective.

“Ire (Ozzy-Momodu) had a great game too so we will share this award with our teammates because without them then the success that we had in this game wouldn’t have been possible.”

CoLA Coach Jackson Gibbons added: “I’m pleased to see Toyosi pick up this award, she had an explosive game scoring wise and really changed the game. She’s one of the hardest working players in the country in my opinion, really puts in the hours.

“Combine that with her natural god given athletic ability and I think her future is going to be a very bright one.”

Abiola and CoLA are next in action this coming Wednesday when they visit Copleston High School..
